five pungent plants:

Onions,
garlic,
shallots,
leeks and
chives.

In the Shurangama Sutra it is said that “If these five are eaten cooked, they increase one’s sexual desire; if they are eaten raw, they increase one’s anger” and that they should be avoided by those who go through the three gradual stages in seeking samadhi.
